Baustelle: Cáceres Hospital, Spain

Cáceres Hospital, Spain

Perfect finish on horizontal and vertical surfaces

This modern building, designed in a zigzag, corresponds to the definition of a horizontal hospital, essentially flat. The aim is to avoid high buildings, and to leave the option of possible expansions that may be required in the future. The hospital has four interconnected buildings with 8 floors, of which 4 are below ground level.

With a total useful surface area of 40,244 m2, each of the four buildings, with a specific purpose, are interconnected: the hospitalization building, the basement (where the outpatient unit is located), the technical area with the emergency room and other services, and the facilities building.

One of the basic requirements of this project was to achieve a perfect fair-faced concrete finish, on both the horizontal surfaces as well as the vertical ones. The solid slabs with a thickness of 40 and 80 cm were carried out with the RAPID Horizontal Formwork and VR work table formwork, both systems known for their simple processes of assembly and disassembly.  The VR work table formwork accelerated the construction progress, since it was able to be moved and reused in the subsequent uses without the need to disassemble it.
